"Gina,
Just a quick note to thank you and Jeff
for your usual great hospitality. I've been going to
Lake Of The Woods for over twenty-five years. Most years
I am fortunate enough to get two or even three trips
a year. Without a doubt, this was the best year of fishing
at opener that I have ever had.
While
a cold front made the walleye fishing a little slower
than normal, we still managed to get five limits plus
eat walleye three times. However, the length limits
installed a few years ago on the northern as well as
the catch and release ethics for the bass now provide
without a doubt some of the best fishing for these species
of anywhere in North America.
My boat averaged over 30 northern between
32" and 38" a day for eight days. That doesn't
include all the less than 32" fish we caught. We
boated over 500 smallmouth in that same time frame,
our biggest being three at 23". Over 300 were between
18" and 22". I literally had to go back to
work to get rested. We also had 6 lake trout between
34" and 37" while fishing the reefs for bass
and northern.
What
a trip!!!! I have also took the liberty to send you
a couple pictures of our group. What is better yet,
these fish will be even bigger next year as we are catch
and release fisherman for the most part.
I can't believe more people don't take
advantage of the great fishing in May!!! Please don't
loose my reservation for next year, I'll be there if
I have to crawl.
Mike
