Tips for Great Crappie Fishing
We
have had a bunch of excitement with the Crappie fishing.
It has been enjoyed by the young and old since our
opening weekend.
Crappie
are among the most sought-after game fish by anglers
at Lake of the Woods. They are widespread throughout
the lake, very abundant and excellent table fare.
Crappie reproductive behavior should
be of interest to anglers, since most crappie are
caught in the spring. Black and white crappie are
members of the sunfish family, along with bass and
bream. In all species of this family, the males hollow
out nests and guard the eggs and young fish. Crappie
build their nests close together but usually in smaller
groups than bream.
Crappie Fishing Tips
Crappie nest earlier than other
members of the sunfish family, generally when the
water temperature is between 60 and 65 degrees F.
Use the lightest weight jig weather conditions
will allow, and tip with a live minnow.
Crappie fishing is a great way to introduce
kids to the wonders of Canadian fishing and share some
unforgettable times together.
